Mountains-to-Sea Ecological and Kevin Caldwell are an invaluable part of our mountain reclamation project in Asheville. From the initial inventory and evaluation of our conservation easement to the ongoing support and guidance for a 160 acre mountain top setting, Kevin has been instrumental to helping us slowly and over time begin to return one mountain ridge to its natural condition. His yearly recommendations and insight have helped educate us on how to protect these incredible resources and preserve them for generations to come. We cannot recommend Kevin enough, he has an uncanny ability of seeing and finding what no one else could!

Mountains to Sea has helped us with our 450 acre NC property continuously since their original ecological survey for us in 2008. This year, they completed the extensive Baseline Documentation Report (BDR) in connection with our application for a Conservation Easement. They are excellent, very responsive, knowledgeable about all kinds of issues (botanical, wildlife, land management, etc.) and very reasonably priced. I was fortunate to be referred to Kevin Caldwell to have a botanical survey run on my property when I bought into the mountains above Swannanoa, NC. I'm an accomplished land person, but had recently moved here and had no experience with local plants. Kevin gave me an excellent and qualified plant survey of my new property, plus was insightful enough to include great information ton aid me in protecting the vegetation during construction work on my home site. Before we built, Kevin helped us see the native habitats, plants, wildlife, quality natural features, and even historically damaged areas on our forested property. MTS's plan wove these awesome natural features into our property and home (vs. bulldozing and burning them), and helped us restore the plants & wildlife native to the actual site during our residency. Having an ecological inventory and plan before building is the only way to go - otherwise you have no idea whats in your natural toolbox, how to work with it, restore it, or protect it over time.
