I’ve been on the fence about leaving this review, but feel it’s important for less experienced investors who are looking for a financial advisor to be informed about their decision. C&G were helpful setting up investment accounts and performed a IRA to ROTH conversion. The staff were always polite and kind. Communication early in our relationship was regular and then slowed as time went on.

I did not realize the investment accounts were set up in such a way that prohibited me from transacting and that wasn’t clearly disclosed. I did ask the team about how to invest with my account/why I couldn’t invest in my account (on multiple occasions) and was NOT told the account was set up that way. That was a frustrating realization I learned that from speaking directly to the investment platform. I also learned from the platform that the way the account was set up may cause issues for me later (ie I may not have access to all platform functions). If that is indeed the case, I will have to set up new accounts.

Conversations were had about broad investment ideas with my financial advisor, but I was never provided a clear understanding of the investment thesis for which investments were made on my behalf.

I did have discussions about stop loss/limits with my financial advisor and those were placed on a couple initial investments, but not thereafter. No provisions of efforts were made to harvest gains or to adjust those stop limits once gains had been realized.

Investments were made into stocks that are not supported by the investment platform, thus finding information about those stocks requires extra work (ie it’s not easily findable in the platforms research section). I wasn’t informed about those selections beforehand and wasn’t provided with an idea of the investment thesis at the end of our relationship.

Ultimately, I had hoped for an experience where I would learn some of the basics about portfolio construction/management and how to go about investing and managing risk in the market. At the end of my time with C&G, I ended up with a number of passive ETFs that were selected on my behalf without any clear communication about the investment thesis or forward guidance from my financial advisor.

To the firm’s credit, they did reach out after seeing my review for feedback.

I don't get any joy about this review, but I expected more from a “2023 Best of Asheville” award winner. Hopefully my experience was an anomaly and this will help other folks have a better experience.
