If I could give them no stars I would, capital companies is very responsive and quick to process an application and move you in, that’s about where it stops. I signed a 14 month lease and wish I never had. I agree, they make their apartments very pretty and aesthetically pleasing, however there are several fundamental problems besides the paint job being terrible. 122 Remsen street (one of their top buildings, which they advertise the most) had pests problems (house centipedes, mice, and flies getting in because all of the screens on their windows had spaces between them). They also revoked amenities mid lease and took away parking passes from some tenants leaving them to find public parking. You can’t have a guest over longer than 2 hours or they will be towed(they call the tow trucks, and then gaslight you by saying they’re just in the area) When moving out make sure to go to the walkthrough and record it ! Or they will tell you everything looks great and they’re really impressed with how clean you kept it, only to then try to charge you for basic cleaning between tenants and tell you they’re giving you a courtesy discount on it.(it is not legal to charge for basic wear and tear / cleaning, so make sure to record and ask explicitly if there are any problems before the end of a move out walk through, as you do have time to fix things if they mention them) If you ever need to park your car in the loading dock to load anything upstairs (what it’s there for) you can probably expect a threatening text from their ‘management.’ There’s just about no additional amenities to the unit (they will tell you they’re working on a seating area between this building and the one next door for when the weather is nice, this is a lie and something they say to make it seem nicer during the application process) Any time I tried to tell them about a problem other than pests, like a window without a screen and a buck in the wall due to water damage, they were very quick and responsive to gaslight me and tell me I was wrong. I let some time pass before leaving this review to be as fair as possible, but renting from this company was one of the worst mistakes I ever made , hope this helps 🙂

Sadly in my experience they do not care of the well-being of their tenants, just the money. My roommate and I showed interest and they seemed very eager to move us in as soon as possible which was great for us. The apartment was beautiful at first glance but definitely not perfect. (We have pictures from move in) The paint job is super cheap (chipping off with a swipe of a fingernail), the flooring was nothing close to perfect, ceiling of the shower cheaply done and so on. We always paid rent and were quiet and clean and never caused any issues.(which I have an email from them expressing this at the time of us giving our notice saying they were impressed with the upkeep of the unit and they would love it if I stayed) Unfortunately the apartment was in a not so great area with a trap house and a corner store across the street. In the middle of the night someone tried to break in. Handprints on the windows. We had always given them our 60 day notice in this time, the refused to help us get out sooner. (Which I understand this isn’t their fault but having two young single women in that situation, they wouldn’t even consider helping in any sense) They insisted we pay our last month’s rent while we weren’t staying there because we no longer felt safe, which we did. They also tried to refuse maintenance requests within that month until I brought my attorney into this. We were told the owner of the unit expressed to get every last dollar out of us and “they should have known what we were getting ourselves into” for moving into an apartment in downtown Cohoes. To top it all off we are not getting back one dime of our $1950 deposit even though the apartment was left clean, minimal damage that could have been considered wear and tear. (Other than one piece of damage that is understandable [$200])I would have loved to give them a great review as I do like they’re trying to get better people into not so great areas but nothing about my experience with this company is positive unfortunately. I also understand the company is kind of just the messenger to the building owners but they must stand with them if they work with them.

Ownership and management are incredibly unethical. They will sneak into your apartment, take away amenities in the middle of your tenancy, and refuse to fix things. If you want to be harassed by a landlord, rent from capital companies. They are sneaky, conniving, dishonest, and that’s just the beginning. The owner has a reputation of threatening tenants to leave or with non renewal. Complete incompetence from all areas - “management”, “maintenance” and ownership. Management and maintenance are in quotes because it’s hard to even describe what they do with that title. More like criminals.

The service that I have received from Capital Companies NY is absolutely outstanding! I have been a resident for only 1 year, however, if not my life changing circumstances, I would never move out! When I first started to look for an apartment in Albany, Bill - the property manager from Capital Companies NY made sure to find the best apartment within the area. 122 Remsen St building is very unique modern building in heart of Cohoes and I was lucky to call it my home! Very quiet living and the neighbors are great. I felt like I am part of a great community. I thank the staff of Capital Companies NY for always being attentive to my needs and thank you for all you do. Keep up the great work!!!

I would highly recommend renting a property from capital companies if you can. They are honest, flexible, and care about their properties and tenants. They were always quick to respond to the few maintenance requests we had and we really enjoyed living there. If you are looking for an honest rental company, don’t hesitate to rent from them.

If you want an honest, caring, and fair company to rent from, Capital Companies is what you are looking for. They are always looking for ways to improve their properties, including quickly responding to maintenance requests. They are fair and understanding towards tenants. This is what renting should be like.
