My name is William Reeder I live in Lapine Oregon. I contacted the Boone County public defenders office requesting the telephone number to legal aid as I cannot afford to pay for an attorney I assumed that the public defender would help me. I was informed that the public defender only defends people in criminal cases. My problem is a family court matter where I’m trying to get a reduction of child support payments as I do not have a job currently because of the coronavirus. Upon calling the office I was treated very rudely by the secretary who explain to me in detail. She stated that she could not help me and she did not know the number to legal aid. I consider this to be unprofessional if you are referring people to legal aid you should be able to have the telephone number in reference. Despite the fact that she was extremely rude and very unprofessional I was able to contact legal aid myself. If this is the way that Boone county operates then they need to reconsider hiring a different person who is more professional and a public speaker. A people person would be great. I rated them one on the stars of 1 to 5. If you have similar experience please let them know thank you.
