Learning-Focused has been a game-changer for me as a teacher and instructional coach. For so long I had pitted teacher autonomy/artistry and the science of learning brains against one another, and I have realized that this a false dichotomy.

For the sake of not blowing up a Google Review (Just know that there are hundreds of teacher nuggets ranging from lesson planning to targeting deep understanding, from classroom setup to partner-sharing tactics, from graphic organizers to unique formative assessments, etc. within), I'll strip away the nuance: At its essential core is pedagogy that maximizes what students can do.

Learning-Focused assessment strategies were amazing to use for reviewing for-end-of-grade testing. My most reluctant learners were so engaged and excited to do the activities. It was very emotional for me to see them so tuned in to the activity and excited about what they were learning. I feel like all my students learned so much more than just how to take a test. They learned how to think about the questions and be more intentional about their answers instead of just clicking a, b, c, or d. It encouraged them to think, while having fun.
