My company has worked with S&Co architects to build all three of our offices over a number of years. Their work has been critical to our growth as each time we’ve needed him it has been for a bigger office. Our clients this week commented on how beautiful and impressive it is. We worked with company principal , Robert Silarski for each project. He has a unique ability to combine form and function. Our office includes a television studio which had very specific requirements. In lessor hands that might have meant cost overruns and construction complications. In fact, the construction all went smoothly and we never had an unanticipated expense! Robert is unique in his ability to listen to what the client needs and wants and create something beautiful and stay on budget. You’ll only be surprised by how beautiful your job turns out. We did a major home renovation and kitchen enlargement with S&Co a few years ago, and more recently, hired Robert Silarski again--this time to advise us as we addressed serious damage from a fire. And inbetween those two major projects, S&Co oversaw the rebuild of our front porch. Each time we have worked with him, Robert Silarski has created a foundation for the success of the project. My wife and I enlisted the help of S&Co for a powder room in our home in Upper Nyack. Rob first met with us to review the different options/contract structures to ensure we had an understanding of how the process would work. We talked through the requirements we had and our timeline/budget. The team was out our house no less than 2 days later, taking measurements, and providing us with a draft about a week later. They were very receptive to our edits/feedback, and quickly edited the final plan. The team had our building permit in hand from the VoUN seamlessly and made sure we could start our work on time.

We hired Rob and S&Co to renovate most of our ground floor back in 2018 or 2019. We live in a small house, and after looking unsuccessfully for something bigger, we decided to stay put and improve what we have. We found S&Co through an online directory of architects experienced working on smaller houses kept (at the time at least) by the architect Sarah Susanka, the author of “The Not So Big House,” an excellent book that influenced our renovation.
As far as working with Rob, we will echo what one of the several references we spoke with before hiring him told us: He will charge you every penny he deserves—and you will get what you pay for: A thoughtful, creative, smart artist who will look after your project to the smallest details; who will navigate your municipality’s building requirements; who is responsive to your questions/concerns; and who will find good contractors, keep them on schedule, and push them when necessary.
We had some ideas that Rob took and executed to beautiful fruition (e.g., vaulting a ceiling and adding beams, converting windows to window seats, etc.), and he had many other ideas that we would have never thought of (a ceiling fan in our living room, a chalk board on a kitchen door, an amazing chandelier). His taste—in materials, design, etc.—is impeccable. We never felt like he was being pushy, or unresponsive, or steering us toward more expensive options, or in any way being disingenuous. In fact, several times he steered us away from more expensive or totally unnecessary options (e.g., “Do you really need a wine fridge?”).
We luckily finished most of our project just before the pandemic hit. It is a completely different house, one we are proud of and love. It was money well spent. And we have been thankful ever since. Visitors love it. If for any reason we need an architect in the future, we would hire S&Co again—as many of the references we spoke with have. It also certainly doesn’t hurt that Rob is funny and an all-around decent person.

We hired Robert Silarski to design a simple addition to our house. After nine months working with him and paying him $14K, the only thing he produced was a poor quality sketch of an option we specifically told him in writing that we did not want to pursue. We did not realize how overpriced and bad quality Robert Silarski was until we hired a new architect. In half the time and for less than half the cost, the new architect provided a highly professional computerized 3D drawing for our addition that could easily be adjusted as we sat and discussed modifications with him. This was outstanding compared to the dirty pencil sketches that could not be modified provided by Silarski for more than twice the cost. Additionally, he does his work in secrecy, not telling you what he is working on…only to find out he is working on something you don’t want, and he still charges you for it. You will overpay for slow and poor quality work with S&CO. Take a look on sites like Houzz and Porch for other review on S&CO to see how bad they are. Shop around first. There are much better architects at far better prices than S&CO.

We had an absolutely amazing experience with Robert. Our TreeHouse project was quite complex, as well as being unfamiliar territory, considering we are the first recreational cannabis dispensary in Rockland County. With multiple hurdles to overcome, Robert had always availed himself to assist in solutions. I highly recommend S&Co.
